To Our KCHS Community,

Greetings from Catholic High!  It never ceases to amaze me how we can go from such a quiet campus in the summer to extremely busy a week or two later.  The fall semester is off to a great start and I am grateful for the excitement and enthusiasm that both our teachers and students are exhibiting in these early days of the school year.

One of our goals for this year is to enhance our culture of kindness that we have at Catholic High. Last night, I attended the funeral of one of our past parents, Mike Bonfini, who tragically passed away last Monday at the young age of 57. Mike was a successful business owner, a loving husband and a great father to his three children, Rachel, Michael and Nick- all Catholic High graduates, but perhaps his greatest trait was the kindness that he showed to everyone he encountered throughout his life. Mike was a giver and I heard it said many times last night that Mike would never say anything negative about anybody.

In our current culture of say-what-you-feel-before-you-think (usually through social media) I very humbly ask for your prayers for all of us at Catholic High, that we may be the epitome of kindness in all that we say, think and do.  Please also pray for the repose of the soul of Mike Bonfini, a great man and a friend to Knoxville Catholic High School. May his soul and all of the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.  Amen.

Much is happening in our school this week so here goes:

Senior Parent Night – Senior Parents are invited to attend the 2018 KCHS Senior Guidance Night at 6:30 p.m. on August 16th in the All Saints Parish Hall. The School Counselors will walk you through the senior timeline, the college process, and answer many college application and scholarship questions. Come to have your questions answered so that you, your child, and your school counselor will be in sync as we work on the multiple applications and processes involved with applying to, selecting, and paying for college. You won’t want to miss this night

Freshmen Retreat – is this Friday and 9th graders may come out of uniform and shorts are permissible on this day. Students will report to A block first.

All School Mass – our Opening school mass to celebrate the Solemnity of Assumption of Mary is tomorrow at 10:55 at All Saints Catholic Church.  Parents are welcome to sit in the back (space is limited).

Parent Volunteers – Any KCHS parents interested in volunteering for school events throughout the year should please visit the Facebook page “KCHS Parent Volunteers”. This page was created to simplify the volunteering process and to have a central location to find out about ways to get involved at KCHS.

Handbook Signature Page – Students, just a reminder that these signed pages are due back to your A block teacher by Friday. They can be found in the back of your Parent/Student Handbook.

Football Game information (from AD, Jason Surlas):

Dear Fighting Irish Fans:

It’s football time at Knoxville Catholic! We are expecting a super large crowd of rowdy Irish fans here this Friday, August 17 as we host the Maryville Rebels. To make things easier for all fans, we have decided to pre-sell tickets in two ways.

First, you can now purchase tickets online. Use the link and follow the instructions, and when you go to the pre-sold ticket gate and show the attendant your phone, he or she will validate it. It’s that simple. The link for online tickets is:

The second way to buy a ticket is the old fashioned way. We will sell tickets at the stadium ticket booth on Friday from 8am to 12 noon. Cost is $7 per ticket. If you do not purchase your ticket in advance, you be required to buy a ticket at the main ticket booth, and could experience long lines. All gates at the stadium will open at 5pm, and we will not allow fans to enter before then. I also would like to mention we have a “no re-entry” policy. Once you are in the stadium, we ask that you do not leave and try to re-enter unless there is a clear emergency.

KCHS Students are admitted to all athletic events on campus free of charge, so it is not necessary for them to purchase a ticket for themselves.

Dates of Interest:

  • Friday, August 24 – Club Fair in the Gym during lunch
  • Friday, August 24 – Drop/Add period ends for students

Hope you have great week.

God Bless and Go Irish!
