Gospel Values and Christ Centered Character Set Us Apart
The religious character of Knoxville Catholic High School is what sets us apart from other secondary schools in the Knoxville area.
|
All spiritual activities are intended to proclaim Jesus Christ, in light of Catholic Church teaching, for the interior transformation of the student and the renewal of humanity.
The Religion Department exercises the lead role in the religious education of its students in order to foster personal relationships with Jesus Christ and His Body, the Church. Gospel values are incorporated throughout all course work.
The fruit of deeper relationship with Jesus Christ is recognition of His presence in others and treating them accordingly:
"Whatever you did for these least brothers of mine,
you did for me" ~ Matthew 25:40
|
| Therefore, in imitation of Jesus' loving concern for others, all students are required to perform a minimum of five hours of service each quarter and ten hours each summer. In addition to the required individual service hours, many service and social action projects are offered each year. These may include Habitat for Humanity, Food Drive for the Ladies of Charity Food Pantry, money and clothing collections for Haiti, annual yard sale to benefit the St. Joseph Food Pantry in Oak Ridge, Coats for the Cold, and the Angel Tree. The Y-Teen and Interact Clubs are also service oriented and provide additional opportunities for students to be involved in their communities. |
 |
Each school day begins with prayer and all subsequentclasses also start with prayer. Daily Mass is celebrated in the Holy Trinity Chapel. Class Masses are held once per month and celebrated by priests from the community who volunteer as class chaplains. School-wide Masses are generally celebrated once each month and on Holy Days of Obligation. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered communally during Advent and Lent, and individually by appointment. All student organizations are encouraged to incorporate discipleship principles in their activities.
Ultimately, a student leaves Knoxville Catholic High School with the knowledge and training necessary to continue a life of discipleship of the Lord Jesus Christ and thus to influence a constantly changing world.
