President’s Email- Week of October 2

To Our KCHS Community: Greeting from Catholic High. I can’t think of a better way to lead up to Fall Break than Spirit Week! We kicked-off the week with the annual Powder Puff game on Sunday, and continued yesterday with Theme Day and today with Color Wars and Junior Olympics. Wednesday is a regular out of uniform day, with Spirit-Week T-shirt day and All School Mass on Thursday, which is also the last day the students can work on Halls and Walls. Judging for Halls and Walls will be done on Friday morning, and we will end the day with a Pep Rally at 2:15 p.m. On Thursday, students may work on Halls and Walls from 3:15-9:00 p.m. A Prayer Service will be held at 9:00 p.m. to close out the week of decorating and building. The D & B Food Truck will be on campus from 5:00-7:00 p.m. They will offer Combo # 1: Hot Dog, Fries and a Drink for $5; and Combo #2: Hamburger, Fries and a Drink for $6. A special thanks to the Flomberg and Price families for providing this service. Tailgates - There will be two tailgates on campus on Friday night, from 5:30-7:00 p.m., prior to kickoff of the Irish vs. West Greene Homecoming football game at 7:30 p.m. The tailgate for the 8th grade will be held on the lawn outside the Fine Arts Wing. The tailgate for the freshmen parents will be held on the practice field. College Fair - The 2017 Knoxville Catholic High School College Fair was held yesterday. This event always provides a great opportunity for our student body to have individual conversations with representatives from the colleges that hold interest, as well as a chance to look around at some schools they know nothing about. With over 80 colleges and universities attending, the representatives utilized technology to scan student information and provided bar codes to the students to download college information. A special thanks to Tammy Hopson for coordinating College Fair. Haiti Club Event - The KCHS Haiti Club invites you to a Mediterranean Evening at the Sacred Heart Cathedral School Gym on Saturday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Haiti Medical Mission. Service hours are available for student volunteers. If you are interested, see Mrs. Judd in the front office, or send her an email at suzanne.judd@knoxvillecatholic.com. Service Opportunity - Volunteers are needed to work at the Diocesan Encuentro Retreat that will be held at KCHS on Saturday, October 21. There are two service opportunities available with descriptions listed below.
  • Volunteers needed for in-direct service hours beginning at 9:00 a.m. to inflate, knot, and transfer balloons to a net. All materials, including the helium, will be provided on site at Knoxville Catholic High School. These balloons will contain bird seed and will be released from the KCHS field after the Diocesan Encuentro meeting to represent the work of all disciples to spread the good news of Christ. Please contact Mrs. Prater at sprater@dioknox.org or at 865-862-5762 if you can volunteer.
  • Ten to twelve energetic volunteers needed for direct service hours from 9:00-4:00 at KCHS to assist with child care of children ages 4-12 while their parents attend the Diocesan Encuentro. Volunteers may assist in shifts (two hours minimum) or volunteer for the entire day. Bilingual (Spanish and English) student volunteers are preferred, but there will be supervising adults who speak Spanish present also. Lunch will be provided to all volunteers. Please contact Mrs. Prater at sprater@dioknox.org or at 865-862-5762 to commit to service.
